I started blogging at a time when I was feeling really down about myself. Part of me felt like I had stopped living and was just existing. I wasn’t happy with me. I knew that I wasn’t living life to my fullest potential. I tried to find faults in my feeling this way in any and everything other than myself. I retreated into my own mind to try to make sense of it all whenever I had the opportunity. My career was on track, my health was good but something was missing. I felt unhappy and lonely despite interacting with lots of people on a daily basis.
Socrates once said “an unexamined life is not worth living” and that lead me to start examining my life. I read various views on life’s purpose as interpreted by philosophers. I listed to various TED Talks on my commutes to and from work. I tried to analyze myself from a 3rd party perspective and found that for me it was IMPOSSIBLE! I started writing here with the majority of my content being private. My private entries are personal thoughts, struggles and dreams that I’m too afraid to make public. I can now look at my entries from months ago and have now begun to understand me.
In conversation with a couple of different people I found myself asking them if they knew who their authentic self was. It was a question that I personally found hard to answer for such a long time but now because I have been writing I’ve started to discover who that person is.
I’ve learned that happiness comes from within and that we must learn to love ourselves first.
