I awoke early to visit the WonderGround Gallery in the Downtown Disney District of Disneyland California. It’s one of my favorite places to spend some time at to just browse what’s on display at the ever changing exhibits. The gallery draws inspiration from Disney’s deep-rooted storytelling-driven-heritage-especially the idea of stepping through the looking-glass, which the greatest of art allows us to do.
To my surprise WonderGround was having an event the same day as my visit. One of two featured artist at the gallery was none other than Joey Chou. His art is fun, whimsical and has a retro feel that incorporates vibrant colors and simplicity. All of these attributes allow the pictures to come to life. I feel as if Joey picked the ideas directly from my imagination.
A little about Joey Chou
Joey Chou was born in Taiwan and moved to California when he was 14. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Art Center College of Design in 2006. He is a visual development artist in animation, an illustrator of children’s books and his work has also been used in murals for Tokyo’s Disney Celebration Hotel.
I purchased 2 prints from the collection he had on display additionally he kindly autographed each one for me. The Stroke of Midnight piece will be a gift for someone and the La La Land inspired Dance By The Griffith Observatory will hang in my office.
